Camp Counselor

POSITION:                            Camp Counselor (13 – 14 Positions Open)

REPORTS TO:                        Camp Director

STATUS:                                 Seasonal Camp Worker (as defined in Section 18897 of the Health and Safety Code)

                                                Will be needed roughly between Thursday, 6/15/23-Sunday, 8/13/23

JOB CLASSIFICATION:       Associate I 

WORK ARRANGEMENT:      In Person

SALARY RANGE:                   Daily Rate of $75.29-$85.29/day (per CA Labor Code 1182.4)

JOB PURPOSE:

As a residential camp for the blind, counselors are responsible for the overall provision of a traditional camp experience to all blind and visually impaired campers. This includes but not limited to: inventing new blind-friendly programming, motivating campers to use non-visual techniques, adapting all activities so that all campers can participate fully regardless of their level of vision. Counselors should encourage active participation in camp meals, clean-up and other daily functions through fun activities. Counselors provide supervision to recreational activities, create educational experiences, promote independence and supervise the health and safety of children and adults. Applicants must also have the ability to work with campers that have secondary disabilities (developmental, hearing impairments and/or mobility restrictions).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older 
  • High School graduate 
  • Some college education preferred 
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications 
  • Previous work in a camp, school, or community service setting 
  • Experience working with individuals who are blind/visually impaired preferred 
  • Knowledge of Braille and/or sign language preferred 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to live on camp premises 
  • Must be able to lift 70 pounds 
  • Ability to enforce safety and emergency procedures 
  • Ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity 
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situation requiring first aid 
  • Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury) 
  • Possess the endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers 

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their living unit, within activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes 
  • Apply basic youth and blindness development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth 
  • Assure campers are properly supervised at all times 
  • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines 
  • Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers within the mission and outcomes. 
  • Responsible for leading and assisting with the teaching of activities. 
  • Actively participate in all program areas as assigned. 
  • Provide for the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities. 
  • Assist in program areas such as waterfront, nature, all camp activities, and arts and crafts as directed. 
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff. 
  • Provide the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs. 
  • Ensure that campers receive their medications as directed by health care manager. 
  • Be alert to campers and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems, and discuss with camp health manager and/or resident camp director when appropriate. 
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to camp director. 
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior. 
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures. 
  • Set a good example to campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship 
  • Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested 
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning, and leading those as assigned 
  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions 
  • Stay current on best practices by reading/viewing instructional media and active participation before and during camp 
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings 
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB PURPOSE:

The enrichment program area leader is responsible for preparing and implementing safe, fun, and appropriate programs for the blind and visually impaired children and adults. He/she will coordinate and oversee all camp enrichment activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Knowledge of Braille and/or sign language preferred 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to live on camp premises 
  • Must be able to lift 70 pounds 
  • Ability to enforce safety and emergency procedures
  • Ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity 
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situation requiring first aid 
  • Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury)

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Plan, direct, and supervise a safe and fun enrichment program 
  • Teach/lead classes and activities in enrichment areas 
  • Schedule a minimum of three classes for each session 
  • Schedule teaching assistants from available counselors and volunteers 
  • Evaluate the success of the enrichment programs and activities 
  • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety procedures 
  • Train staff in their responsibilities in the enrichment areas  
  • Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures 
  • Assist counselors with the development of art kits for cabins or special events 
  • Manage the physical facilities and equipment in the enrichment program areas 
  • Set up enrichment areas 
  • Teach and monitor proper use of equipment 
  • Ensure the security of the enrichment equipment when not in use 
  • Conduct a daily check of the area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair 
  • Ensure that the enrichment program area equipment and supplies are inventoried and steps are taken to replace them in a timely manner 
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned 
  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp functions 
  • Assist with camper placements in classes and with living assignments when necessary 
  • Evaluate volunteers, counselors in training (CIT), and counselors throughout the summer 
  • Act as a camp counselor when necessary 
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings

JOB PURPOSE:

The aquatics program area leader is responsible for preparing and implementing safe, fun, and appropriate programs for the blind and visually impaired children and adults. He/she will coordinate and oversee all camp aquatics activities.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually impaired is seeking an Access Technology Specialist in our Access Technology department. The AT department trains more than 300 students each year in the use of screen readers, magnification software, specialized devices, mobile phones and smart home technology. The AT department also partners with dozens of companies to ensure apps, websites, and products are accessible to blind and visually impaired users.

The Access Technology Specialist is responsible for providing high quality technology assessments and training to blind and visually impaired students both one on one and in group workshops. Assessments and class sessions may be held virtually or in person. Specialists work with each student to define learning goals, present material in a clear and comprehensive manner, and document instruction in the Lighthouse database. Specialists stay current on the latest access technology, and the accessibility of mainstream apps, to serve as a technology resource for Lighthouse students and community members.

Specialists work on Lighthouse consulting projects in the areas of accessible design, corporate training and user research.

LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired in San Francisco is seeking a full-time Events Coordinator to join a high-performance team dedicated to creating successful events for clients, top donors, stakeholders, and partners. The Event Coordinator is expected to travel and be where the events are taking place, which includes our camp in Napa, our location in Alameda and throughout the state of California.

Under the supervision of the Director of Hospitality, the Events Coordinator will plan and execute multi-day guest experiences, corporate meetings and training events, and special events including receptions, galas, stewardship, and cultivation events. 

The Events Coordinator will perform extensive event research of vendors and venues; maintain files and intricate event calendar; interact with internal and external constituencies; assist in the development of printed materials; secure vendors for events; assist in the creation of presentations and meeting materials under the direction of the Director of Hospitality.

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for post-event wrap up tasks such as archiving event photos, collateral materials, and captures post event feedback and staff reflections for future events, analysis and reporting. Maintain Salesforce database and mailing lists to ensure accuracy of client, participant, and donor information.

JOB PURPOSE

The Salesforce Administrator/Developer role is a key, full-time staff position at LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired (LightHouse) in San Francisco. The Salesforce Manager reports to the Vice-president of Information Systems and has responsibility for the effective administration and development of LightHouse’s Salesforce instance, including providing direction and thought leadership on change management, support, and how to improve quality and outcomes within the Salesforce ecosystem.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education or equivalent:

  • Salesforce Administrator certificate (in good standing, required)
  • Salesforce Developer certificate (in good standing, preferred)
  • Batchelor Degree (preferred)

Experience: 

Position requires at least four years of experience with Salesforce CRM, and six years working within a systems administration capacity. The position requires an individual with clear, positive experience in working remotely and delivering projects without direct supervision.

Other required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Experience in Salesforce CRM app development with strong expertise in Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Non-Profit Cloud and Force.com at an enterprise level of complexity.
  • Experience with SFDC Administrative tasks.
  • Experience with Lightning Web Components, Aura Components, Platform Events, APEX Classes, Process Builder, Triggers, Visualforce, Approval Processes, Managed Packages and Flow.
  • Experience with database design concepts and use of SOQL, SOSL, ODBC, and SQL.
  • Experience with JavaScript, HTML, XML, WSDL and CSS.
  • Experience with Salesforce API and Web Services (REST/SOAP/Bulk).
  • Experience with data migration, including integration, data cleansing, and import/export of large volumes of data.
  • Experience leading activities on structured team development projects.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
  • Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods and practice Agile software development methodologies.
  • Ability to recognize and recommend needed changes in user and operations procedures including participation in code reviews.

Desired skills include:

  • Experience with ETL and integration platform.
  • Experience with software code repositories, with a preference for Git experience.
  • Experience with environment management, release management, code versioning, deployment methodologies, and CI/CD tools.
  • Experience with quality assurance and QA/QC testing methods, including automated testing.
  • Strategic understanding of data design, architecture, relational databases, and data modeling.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to: Carry or transport 20lbs; sit at a desk and perform computer-intensive work for long periods of time; operate standard office equipment; travel independently.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Overseeing the daily operation of two Salesforce instances.
  • Providing oversight and leadership in the execution of projects within the Salesforce environments.
  • Provide guidance on development methodologies and code management within the Salesforce instances.
  • Execute on project tasks as directed by the Data team leader.
  • Provide feedback to plans and priorities presented to the Data team by the team leader.
  • Maintain Salesforce instances using systems administration best practices with an intent of providing the highest availability possible for the systems’ users.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor technical teams of varying skill levels.
  • Provide guidance and direction around data architecture and design.
  • Participate in team and organization tasks, including but not limited to all staff meetings, team huddles, project and milestone post-mortem reviews, and others.
  • Assist and instruct regarding data collection, migration, management, and reporting, providing instruction and guidance to other staff members in these areas.
