Revisit a beautiful haptic art piece and join artist Maia Scott at the San Francisco Public Library's Workshop: Be Still When it Moves You, a three-day meditative arts exchange on Maia Scott's One Peace Labyrinth.
Maia Scott created the One Peace Labyrinth in conversation with Designing Peace at the Museum of Craft and Design (MCD). Meant to be walked and touched, the labyrinth was created with the community. Maia Scott co-authored Peaceful Palms, a Mobile Make Art project facilitated across San Francisco, allowing people everywhere to create their own palm shape, embellish it with a message of peace, and add it to the collective art piece. The labyrinth was then displayed at MCD during in-house programs and featured in Crip’s Ecologies at Root Division.
Maia Scott is an interdisciplinary artist and arts educator who teaches accessible arts, theater and movement with City College of San Francisco and LightHouse for the Blind. Scott is also a certified labyrinth facilitator and bodyworker. Though she aims to embody peace and gentleness, Scott regularly shows up to fight the good fight with her guide dog, Gleam, to ensure access and inclusion for everybody in both doing and viewing the arts. Scott earned an MFA from the California Institute of Integral Studies, a BA in Therapeutic Recreation and an AA in dance.
