MAD Lab is offering FREE accessible transit maps to Bay Area residents until the end of 2022!
LightHouse’s Media and Accessible Design Lab (MAD Lab) has created accessible maps of every BART station and Salesforce Transit Center. These accessible maps have become an incredibly useful resource for blind and low vision travelers, as well as a useful tool for Orientation & Mobility instructors teaching map reading and wayfinding.
Each tactile station map has braille and large print labels with full color graphics and contains the following:
- A map key listing the symbols used on the maps
- A street level view showing the station surrounded by bus stops, taxi stands, loading zones, parking areas and adjacent streets
- A concourse view showing station entrances, fare machines, fare gates, station agent booths and restrooms
- A platform view showing the platform with benches and the location of trackways
- Also, all views show stairways, escalators and elevators connecting the various levels of each station
- Each request also receives a BART System Map
